Creating The Ultimate Easter For Kids And You

Posted by kunal on February 17th, 2018

The first card for Easter appeared in the 19th century as a postcard. The mail requirements for postcards stated that one side of the card was for an address and the other side was for a greeting, leaving little space for a long message. Bunnies, rabbits, lambs, and flowers are some of the first images to appear on Easter cards. Images that reflected prosperity, youth, and good luck were often seen on these cards for Easter 2018. Eventually the mail requirements changed to the familiar postcard design we see today with an image and the other half for an address. This change allowed the designs of Easter cards to contain both a festive greeting with image, as well as a meaningful message. It's rather amazing how the mailing of a simple 19th century postcard has evolved into an enormously successful greeting cards industry. Did you know that Easter is the fourth most popular holiday for sending card?

Unlike most holidays, the date of Easter changes every year. The Christian celebration of Easter is based upon the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox, making the holiday occur somewhere between March 22 and April 25. However, since the Eastern Orthodox Christians follow the Julian calendar for establishing the date of Easter, they may have a different date from those who follow a lunar calendar. The date of the majority of Easter celebrations is based on the lunar calendar.

The origins of the name "Easter" stem from the Old English, Eostre or in Old High German, Ostara, which is the name for the Germanic goddess of light and celebration of the return of spring. Ostara/Eostre's Month, Eostur-monath has given its name to the festival of Easter. Easter is more commonly known as the Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The 40 days prior to Easter is known as Lent, which is a time of reflection and penance for many Christians.

In addition to the religious observance of Easter, many countries celebrate this early spring holiday with colored eggs, pastries, sweets, and fun activities. Although the origins of this holiday are religious, people enjoy the non-religious aspect of Easter as well. It is a time for adults and children to decorate eggs, fill their homes with joyful images of small, baby animals as well as give each other cards with messages of springtime cheer. An Easter egg hunt is always a fun activity for kids and adults. Like many holidays Easter is a time to share and what better way to show your love than by giving one another Easter cards.

Sending an Easter card is a special way to tell someone that you are thinking of them, no matter if they live nearby or far away.
