Is Your Website Outdated? Here’s How To Tell

A business owner can wear many hats, which can cause certain aspects of the business to go untouched for long periods of time. We see this happen most often with a business’ website, many people think that as long as you have a website presence then why does matter how it looks or how well it works. This is a huge mistake that company’s make because more businesses lose customers through poor site usability, which includes a poor layout and not optimized for mobile platforms.

Here are some ways to tell that your website is outdated:

1.            Non-responsive. If you can resize your website screen and the images/text do not shift to fit on the smaller sized screen then your website is not responsive. This is a big issue today since most people browse the internet on their phones in addition to their desktops. If your website is not optimized for a mobile platform then your website will appear small and unreadable when viewing on a cell phone. This can cause site visitors to leave your site and go to a competitor resulting in lost business.

2.            Flash. Using Flash on a website is an extremely outdated concept and, today, most mobile/tablet platforms do not support it. Flash can also make it difficult for search engines to scan the website, which means fewer people are finding you through Google.

3.            Website and other branding do not match. A sign of an outdated website can also be that your print marketing is changing with the times while your website stays stagnant. It is important to keep branding consistent across all platforms so if your website does not match the rest of your branding then it’s time to update.

4.            Aesthetic. You should probably be able to tell if your website is outdated just by the appearance of it. Are the colors or fonts the typical defaults from years ago? Such as times new roman or the blue link color. Is the website lacking in features that are staples in good web design today? Such as sliders. If you answered yes to any of these questions then chances are your website is outdated and could use some sprucing up.

These are just some of the things to look at when questioning if your website needs an updated design and layout. We know that changing your website can seem like a scary task, but our team of web designers is experienced in making this a simple process that will bring your website back up to speed and give you more business.
