Data migration from Legacy systems to modern application

                                Data migration process import the legacy data to a new system. This can involve entering the data manually, moving disk files from one folder to another, database insert queries and developing custom software. The method used for any particular system depends entirely on the systems involved and the nature and state of the data being migrated. Data migrations are complex.


                    To perform data migration the following steps must be performed; analyze and define target structure, analyze and define source structure, perform field mapping and define the migration process. The analyze and define source and target structures, that must be performed on the existing system as well as the new system to understand how it works. Data migration that differs from data movement, data integration and conventional extract transform and load respectively. It will include the process of extraction, transformation and loading process involved in migration of a database.

                        Legacy systems are face some challenges like the systems are very expensive to maintain, businesses have already invested huge amount of money on developing these platforms, and need to spend even more on maintenance and up-gradation if they continue to use them. Legacy systems are difficult to Integrate with latest technologies.

 

                             Several organizations implement latest database application system to replace the functionality currently delivered by one or more legacy systems, the legacy system remains essential for their business and decision making. Data Migration is crucial for business development as it helps to create better user interfaces and add functionality essential for surviving in a competitive world. There are some challenges faced while modernizing a legacy system; they are significant modernization costs and duration, organizational change management, stakeholders commitment, co-existence of legacy and new Systems. All the same, migration of the legacy systems to modern systems that helped in enhancing the performance of the new application, reducing down time and also in providing the report analysis.
