Amazing Things to Do at the Hoover Dam

Posted by Elite Internet Technologies on March 20th, 2018

There is almost nothing that prepares you for your visitto the grand Hoover Dam. The dam has been called as one of the greatest works of engineering in the history of mankind. It is about 726feet tall and toured by millions of people every year. The Hoover Dam is based along the winding Colorado River, which is about 30 miles southwest of the amazing city of Las Vegas.

Here are some tips to consider when visiting the grand Hoover Dam.

Bookthe Best Hoover Dam Tour

While visiting the Hoover Dam, you will see a film presentation which will guide you into the area that keeps this dam working. You can also take an elevator about 530 feet down through the black canyon, for about 30minutes inside the dam. Always remember that these planned tours will take you to the lesser known parts of the Hoover Dam. During the 1 hour guided tour, you will be visiting one of the best areas of the dam, like the construction tunnel that was drilled back in the 1930s and the Penstock Viewing Platform. During the tour, you will also be allowed to peek out of the air vents that are facing the dam to feel the cool breeze from the river below.

Visit the Street Level

During your visit to the street level of the dam, directly from the Visitor Center, you will discover a number of winged figures made from bronze. While heading toward Lake Mead, do not forget to stop at the old exhibition building to see some amazing educational exhibits along with a topographical model of the ColoradoRiver.

Access the Observation Deck

You can always access the observation deck at the Visitor Center by taking the elevator or stairs which are right adjacent to the Exhibit Gallery. You will find both open and enclosed areas that will offer beautiful panoramic views of Lake Mead, the Dam, and the Colorado River. You can also listen to the audio guide and find out more details about the dam and the surroundings.

Other Tips and Warnings

Note: While in Las Vegas, you can always opt for the best Hoover Dam tour and the best Grand Canyon Tour, as these tours are quite popular with the tourists in Vegas.

The Visitor Center of the Hoover Dam is open almost every day, except Christmas and Thanksgiving. There are certain vehicles that cannot cross the Hoover Dam, including buses with luggage, vehicles carrying harmful and toxic material and moving vans. We don’t recommend booking this tour if you are claustrophobic, due to some enclosed and narrow spaces.
