The city of Santo Domingo is home to many museums, especially in the Zona Colonial district, where it seems as though they can be found around every corner. There are plenty of villas in the Dominican Republic that are located close enough to the museums so that you won’t have to view them all in one day. For those that are interested in history, there is no place better in the Dominican Republic.

Museo de las Casas Reales

This is one of the important cultural monuments that was built during the colonial era. The building dates back to the sixteenth century and was used to house the administrate offices of Spanish colonies. There are a range of museum rooms to explore like the Office of the Chief Judge, Family Life, the Waiting Hall, Legislation and many more.

Museo de la Atarazana

This museum is housed in a former arsenal and customs warehouse which displays one of the most fascinating examples of colonial architecture. The collection features a range of artefacts from the Spanish galleons on their return to the colonies. Be sure to rent a villa in the Dominican Republic  nearby if you are interested in the history of the area.

Museo Memorial de la Resistencia Dominican

The memorial museum is dedicated to collecting, organising, preserving, researching and displaying heritage of the struggles of Dominicans related to their period of dictatorship. Although sad, the museum is a unique insight to what people went through, including models of torture centres and the restoration of Jail Site 9. Overall it is an education institution devoted to educating new generations about the value of life.

Other museums in the area include the Museum of Alcazasr, Museo de la Catedral, Museo Duarte and the World of Ambar Museum. Why not get a Caribbean villa in the Santo Domingo area do you can explore these museums at your leisure.
