Posted by Mark Harris on March 29th, 2018

A mobile notary signing agent is a notary public qualified to assist mortgage closing. They are like messengers transferring loan documents from lender to borrower, gather signatures and send payment checks. They are appointed by the lenders but work as a neutral third party. Most of the notary publics who are specialists in real estate notarization and signing of loan papers have started working as signing agents. So, the traveling notaries who provide mobile notary services in real estates and loan departments have started working as mobile notary signing agents. Here, I want to mention that, all signing agents are notary publics but all notary publics are not signing agents.

So, how can one start to work as mobile notary signing agents? Let’s look at the process in step by step manner.

1. Be a notary public first- The government authorizes notaries to get the documents signed under their observation. In order to become a signing agent, you first have to be a notary public. So, enrol yourself for the training of mobile notary. Complete the training, pass the test and then apply for becoming notary public in your county where you will be provided with an identification number.

2. Get connected with an association of notaries- After getting certified as a notary public; join any association of notary publics and notary signing agents. This type of associations keeps the records of the notaries, provide other training and also offer few other services. Linking with them will be useful for you.

3. Get certified as signing agent- You can get training for being notary signing agent through the association of notaries. They also conduct the test and after passing the test you get certified as a signing agent. Once you pass the test and get the certificate they record you in their referral book so that the mortgagees can reach you.

4. Decide on types of clients- Now, once you got your certification, decide on the type of business you want to work with and go ahead accordingly. Different money lenders have different strategies related to loan matters. Again, think and decide where you will fit. Then take a next step.

5. Hunt for the clients- Although you are recorded as certified notary signing agent in the directory of notary association and can get clients through it, you can also hunt for the clients on your own, whether in your own county or outside the county,

a. For getting projects from clients outside your county, visit the websites for professional signing agents. Create your profile on those websites so that your future clients will view it. Before making your profile, check for other profiles so that you can get a fair idea about what is to be included in your profile details. Highlight the areas in which you are strong.

You can also contact well-known signing agents of your area and try and build a network. They may be in need of an assistant for some of their assignments and you can help them. In return you will get a guide who will help you to take your first step.

b. In order to get assignments from clients in your county, visit financial companies or banks and check whether they are in need of a signing agent.

For any professional, getting the first assignment is always a tough task, but once you start and chase your goals you will get going and be successful.
