How to make relocation stress-free

As we have discussed above, relocating to a new place involves many tough decisions, but meticulous planning can help reduce the stress significantly. Below we have mentioned certain things that you must do in order to make your transition to your new home a smooth experience: Get your mindset right

It might be possible that you are not too eager to make a move and resent the whole idea. But remember, future has many good things in store for you. If you embrace this decision of relocating wholeheartedly, every task involved will become less stressful and more enjoyable. Think about all the great experiences that you can have at your new place and believe me this will add much-needed pep to your steps.

  1. Plan everything in advance

Planning is the key to handle all the issues associated with an impending move. Prepare a to-do list with a flexible timeline and assign responsibilities to every family member. Believe me you don’t want to leave everything to the last minute. Prepare separate lists for tasks to do at your present home and tasks that need to be done at your new home and get working on them right away.

  2. Declutter and avoid buying new stuff

Identify all the non-essential items that are just occupying useful space and get rid of them as soon as possible. Arrange a garage sale, donate them, give them to friends and families, just get rid of them. Why would you want to pay for packing and moving something you don’t need? Unless and until, you need something new urgently, postpone that purchase till you move to your new home.

  3.  Research about your new area

Get yourself acquainted with your new community. Use the internet to acquire as much information as you can. If possible, make a short trip to the area and travel around. Find out about the shopping centres, restaurants, hospitals, schools and every other necessary amenity that you might need after your move.

  4. Find a suitable Home in the new location

Get in touch with a reputed real estate management, discuss all your requirements and then decide amongst the choices offered by them.  It is recommended that you finalize a place well in advance before you have to move there. This will give you enough time to comply with all the documentation, pay necessary charges, ensure that electricity and power connection are up and running. Believe us; this will make sure that your move is a smooth and stress-free experience.

  5. Pack and Label all your stuff

Buy plenty of corrugated boxes and pack all your stuff neatly and label them accurately. This will reduce your headache when it comes to unpacking and arranging all the paraphernalia.

  6. Prepare an essentials bag

Unpacking and arranging packed cartons will take many days to accomplish, and it is certain that you need something but cannot find it. It is better to prepare an essentials bag with all the necessary stuff that you may require for a week.

  7. Hire Professional Movers and Packers

If your budget permits, hire a professional mover and packer company. Just tell your relocation date, place & time and they will handle all the tasks involved.. Discuss all your requirements with them including moving car, fragile gadgets and oversized gears. This will take away a significant portion of the stress involved. If possible do subscribe to a suitable insurance policy to take care of any damages during the move.

  8. Talk with your friends and family

If you have any apprehensions or doubts, feel free to discuss it with your families and friends. This way you will know that you have their moral support and also be prepared to take on any challenges that you may face.

  9. Be open and welcoming

Believe me, this will make your transition a pleasant experience. Even if you are shy, do not hesitate to get acquainted with your neighbours because they will be the first one to help you in case of emergencies.

  10. Take care of your kids

Keep an open line of communication with your kids as moving to a new place thing will affect them as much as it affects you. Take them on a tour of their new school, and introduce them to kids in the neighbourhood, so that they can also acclimatize with the new surroundings.

  11. Documentation

Take care of all the necessary documentation involved with the move. Inform the relevant authorities regarding your change of address, settle all your pending bills, and ask the utility company to disconnect the power and water connection.
