ISO 14001 certification refers

ISO 14001 certification refers to the implementation of Environmental management system focused on the environment, and which advocates and practices corporate environmental responsibility. This methodology explained in terms of ISO 14000 specifically is that you establish the environmental goals you want to achieve (make objectives and targets that are measurable, if possible) and then proceed to plan what processes are required to reach these.

Next you need to put these processes into action, including assigning particular individuals to be responsible for implementing and controlling your EMS (this means documenting the processes and results as well as establishing emergency measures). After this, performance has to be assessed on a regular basis in terms of whether the targets are being met. And following the results of the assessment there should be considerations of how to develop procedures for even better environmental outcomes.

What is great about this certification is that is designed to fit perfectly with other, more general management systems, like ISO 9001 which focuses on improving the overall quality and efficiency and streamlining procedures. Once you decide to adopt a management system such as ISO 14001 certification, the manner in which it is implemented means it becomes as integral part of the structure of your company and you are constantly improving and finding new ways to be more environmental; the initial amount of effort to become certified soon pays off.
