A solitary brain at times will not be in a position to take decisions all alone. If a task has to be accomplished within a particular time period then it has to be done with the assistance and guidance of others. Thus the members of a team have to work in unison so as to accomplish the assigned task and this is exactly where the leaders have a critical role to play. They have to motivate and guide the team so that a particular assignment is completed within the time period allotted for its completion.

The team leaders are the ones who actually hold their team together and dig up the finest out of the members of the team. Every individual member must be able to draw inspiration from their leaders and not fear to seek their advice or even guidance on certain issues. In fact, team leaders should be role models for their member.

The critical role of a team leader

The objectives of the team must be set by the leaders not alone but after discussing with the members and taking their suggestions on all the issues. The leaders of the team must in detail spell out the duties and responsibilities of the members. Nothing must be imposed on them; instead, the members must carry out their liabilities with dedication.

A team leader must possess the following characteristics to bring success to his team and himself:

  • A team leader should not be partial.
  • The leader of the team should motivate the members for them to perform better.
  • He/she support the members of the team to assist each other.
  • He has to be a mentor to his team members.
  • He should take the initiative to bring the members closer.
