Steps Of Importing Embroidery Design Into Brother SE400

Posted by laurie lee on April 8th, 2018

The Brother SE400 embroidery and sewing machine have a USB cable port. This means that you can connect the SE400 directly to your computer. You can then download the embroidery designs saved on your computer to the SE400. This article explains step by step how to do this.

Select.PES or.DST Embroidery Design File Format

You can purchase other embroidery designs on the Brother SE400 on the CD, or download it from the Internet. In addition, many online websites including Brother.com offer free downloadable designs.

The Brother SE400 can only process embroidered data files in.PES and.DST formats. Be sure to get the correct file format.

Check the hoop size is 4x4 inches.

Copy or download the embroidery data file to your computer

I usually store all my designs in a folder named Embroidery Designs on the desktop. Then I organized them into subfolders by type. For example, "flowers" or "sports." Make sure the filename does not contain special characters. Using only letters, numbers, hyphens (-) and underscores (_) is the safest.

Connect your computer to the Brother SE400

Plug the supplied USB cable into the USB port on the right side of the SE400. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB port on your computer. You need to make sure the computer and embroidery machine must be turned on. See the Removable Disk icon in your computer's My Computer and connect.

Copy the embroidery design data file to "Removable Disk"

Next, you need to copy the embroidery design data file to be used to Removable Disk. Do not put the folder in Removable Disk. The SE400 cannot recognize the folder or find the embroidery pattern in the folder.

Do not copy more than 12 modes to Removable Disk.

Save the pattern in the machine's memory. Otherwise, when you turn off the SE400, the patterns on the Removable Disk will be lost and you will have to copy them from your computer again.

Choose the pattern you want to stitch

Press the USB icon on the LCD screen. The download mode is displayed. If you have a.PES file, you will see the embroidery design image. Use the "Previous" and "Next" keys to move to the pattern you want. Press the Retrieve button.

Tajima (.DST) embroidery data files are limited. Only the first eight characters of the file name appear in the pattern list, not in the design image. The .DST format does not contain a specific thread color and is displayed in Brother's default color order. Check the preview and change the thread color to your liking.
