The History of Ground Transportation

Since the beginning of time, people have always looked to get from one place to another. Overtime, advances in technology has enabled people to travel faster, further and more efficiently. From the invention of the wheel to the development of the electric car, land transportation has constantly improved, and innovation in transportation continues to grow. So, let’s go back in time to see how transportation evolved overtime.

The invention of wheel:
Donkey and horses were most likely domesticated around 2000 to 3000 BC. Next came the wheel which came around 3500 BC. The first cart with a wheel worked with an axis and separately rotating wheel. At first wheels were made from solid pieces of wood lashed together. But after 2000 BC, they began making them with wooden spokes.

Animal pulled carriages:
During the late 16th century and early 17th century, goods were transported using pack horses and oxen. Covered wagons were often used to transport goods as well as people. Transportation and communication also improved in the 17th century. In the middle of the 17th century, stage coaches began transporting people. However, only the rich could afford this mode of transportation, also the ride wasn’t very pleasant either, as the there was no suspension in these stage coaches, so the ride was quite bumpy to say the least. Also, people would also get robbed by bandits waiting for stage coaches to pass by. This spurred the need to build turnpikes enforced by highway patrol.

The building of turnpikes:
During the 18th century, a group of wealthy men began the construction of the turnpikes. These turnpikes did come with a catch, it meant that people had to pay a toll to access it. the first turnpike was constructed in 1663 but turnpikes really began mainstream in the 1800’s.

The invention of the locomotive:
Later in the 19h century, there was a huge revolution in the transportation industry with the invention of rail road. This new mode of transportation was faster and safer than taking a horse driven carriage from one town to another, as they decrease the risk of being robbed by bandits. Steam locomotives continued to pull carriages until the late 1800’s.

The invention of the car:
On June 4th, 1896, in a tiny workshop, henry ford put the finishing touches on his prototype gasoline powered motorcar. It took 2 years of experimentation, he was finally done with his project.

The present day:
Today, we have made it this far, thanks to our desire to constantly improve and innovate in the domain of transportation. In fact, we can see another transportation revolution taking place, such as self-driving cars and passenger drones that don’t require any piloting skills.

The invention of the limo:
Throughout history, there have always been people who demanded a more luxurious form of travel. For them, ordinary ground transportation simply didn’t suffice, they required executive Ground Transportation in Temecula. Whether they are a big shot celebrity, or a CEO of a fortune 500 company, they have demanded to ride in only the best limos.
