Importance of Thoroughly Checking Entry Report When Renting

If you are looking for a new rental property and don’t want to walk into it blind, then it is well worth checking out the entry report. It is basically an inspection of the property and contains details about its various aspects. This entry report can provide you everything you need to know about the condition of the rental property before you move in. The reason why you should thoroughly check this report is that it can help you learn about all the issues with the rental property. So, what aspects of the entry report should you give the most attention to? Let’s find out.

Plumbing

You will find a section on plumbing in the entry report. Go through it very carefully to find if there are any leaky taps that you need to know about. This is important because most of the time there are leaks in the plumbing which go unnoticed at the start of the renting tenure. By knowing about it from the entry report, you can ask the landlord to have the leaks fixed beforehand. Even if the report doesn’t have any reports of leaks, you should check for them yourself. If you do find any then don’t forget to note them down in the report.

Smoke Alarms

It is important to check the smoke alarms before moving into a new rental property as well. Since the working and maintenance of these alarms is your responsibility as a tenant, you should ensure that they are in good working order when you are moving in. The entry report usually has digital photos of the smoke alarms, telling you about their location and condition. You can check them out yourself and test them to see if they are working properly or not. Report any issues with the alarms to the property manager before your move since you will be held responsible for fixing them if you report them after moving in.
