Horse racing is called the sport of kings, this handle was coined many years ago when it was only a sport of Royalty, only the rich could afford to own and race horses, betting and gambling was originally only confined to those who could afford it. Betting today has come along way over the years and is now a multi million dollar industry.

Horse racing is not just about betting on horses, there is a lot more to the sport.  Some people just enjoy watching the sport for fun. Other enjoys watching and placing a bet or wager. All-round there is a tremendous love of the sport and it is followed by millions around the globe.

If you are new to betting, then it?s a good idea to learn as much as you possible can before beginning to place bets. Learning tips and strategies is a wise decision and one you really should follow.

Types of bets that can be placed:

  1. A straight or single bet is one where you place a bet or wager on the understanding that it will be the first horse to finish at the wining post.
  2. The place bet is a wager that the horse will either come second or third in the race.
  3. The combination bed means that you will be able to place a bet on more than one horse and you can then state which horse will pass the finish line in 1st, 2nd, or third place. Another feature of the combination bet you can predict which will be the consecutive winner of the race.

Tip 'n Strategies:

a.                One strategy is to get information from a track statistics book, or do some research on the internet about horses and their statistics, look in newspapers and form books, these all give you the statistics of different horse's performance.  Check out the horses that have regular winning streaks, these are good bets to start with as a newbie. It gives you a better than even chance of striking a winner.

b.                Chick the period of times the horse has run, if it has a consistent record of running, and added to it winners then it?s a better bet that it will continue to perform well. Horses with big gaps in racing would need a bit more than leap of faith to ensure a winner.

c.                 Your next area is the performance of the jockeys, a jockey with consistent winners is more likely to bring home a winner than a new jockey. Jockey stats can be found in the statistics book or on the internet.

People who win more often are ones that use their head rather than their emotions to place the bet.  Like all gambling, don't bet more that you are prepared to lose on the horses. And most of all you must enjoy yourself.
