How to keep ourselves updated in our career?

Posted by Priya Radhakrishnan on April 22nd, 2018

With the ever-growing world, staying relevant is very important. We might hear news of bulk of employees getting laid off every now and then across industries. As the technologies have integrated our lives in a way that we could have never imagined, we are forced to change ourselves - skill-wise and perspective-wise.

With unemployability looming large ahead, stagnant payscale, heavy competition for every vacant position, constantly updating ourselves is the key to survival.

If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

The missed opportunities aren't coming back. But we can grab those opportunities coming our way in future. Constant vigilance on what the future might hold and how to sail through the future is the need of the hour.

Step 1: Learning never stops

You got to learn new skills and hobbies as we age. There is no stopping. Just the limits that we have on my minds are illusions.

For example, if you're a mechanic, try starting a mechanic shop yourself.

If you're a software developer, upgrade yourself to the modern and latest technologies. Create applications, showcase and build a resume.

Age, like fears, is often just an illusion. It should never stop you from doing something you want to do. (Anything legal, of course, :P)

Step 2: Get trained

Never hesitate to get trained. Spending on books, training courses, health should become a practice.

We see people spending on movies, music, charity (highly appreciated !). But many people I know aren't that generous to spend on their career's progress. It seems like a waste of money for them.

But spending a few dimes and getting trained will help you earn in millions, possibly. That's the key.

Step 3: Help others

Try helping others and see the difference it makes in your life. This has been said and done throughout the history. But we rarely make time to help others.

We might help our close ones, but going out to help those who are really in need is a very difficult task. Helping others is the easiest way to learning.
