The latest trend that our youngsters are following these days is going towards Veganism. Apart from having healthy and nutritionist benefits, it also brings positive change in one’s lifestyle. But whether Vegan diet is good for growing kids or not has been a topic of debate for quite a long time. According to nutritionists and pediatricians, the easy vegan meals are always good for kids. If meals are well planned and prepared with full knowledge then vegan meals can suffice everything that is included in a normal diet. However, if you want to raise your kid feeding him vegan meals only you need to keep lot many things in mind as little negligence can lead to Calcium, iron, and deficiency of other major nutrients.

So for all mothers reading this article, if you are planning to introduce plant-based diet for kids then please keep following points into consideration:

  • Breastfeed: No other food can be as a nutritionist as mother’s milk for a newborn baby. Mother’s milk is recommended for at least six months. It has all nutrients that a child requires. However, as soon as the baby turns six months it becomes imperative to introduce semi-solids and solids to the baby’s diet. If as a mother you plan to stop breastfeeding, and want your kid to go vegan then introduce Soya formula milk to baby’s diet.
  • Introducing Vegan Food: When you introduce Vegan food in your baby’s diet, at that point of time making sure that you introduce rice cereal which is a great option to be introduced as baby’s first food, it has the high amount of iron and gives sufficient amount of nutrients to your child. Cereal can be mixed with breast milk or soy formula milk. Apart from that tofu, pulses, groundnuts, fruits, and vegetables can also be given to the child as a part of the Vegan diet.
  • Focus on Energy: It is a very important thing to keep in mind that vegan meals are less energetic, hence needs to be taken in larger amounts. But kids generally have small appetites, hence it is recommended to feed them at regular intervals with easy vegan meals. You can add healthy oils to the meals of your child. Soya oil is one of the most recommended oils for the people following a plant-based diet for kids as it has high nutritionist value and is high on energy. Try to introduce fiber in kids’ diet but food items with high fiber are filling and hence needs to be given with utmost care because they tend to feel full before they get the right amount of nutrition.

Conclusion: To sum up with, we would say that plant-based diet for kids is good and recommended as long as you are informed about the caloric and nutritionist value of food items you are providing to your kid. Introduce dried fruits in their diets which are high in fiber as they have more nutritionist value, but make sure to develop the habit of brushing teeth whenever any dried fruit is consumed.
