Scope of each course

As a ship requires several employees skilled in varied domains, courses have been designed for each one of them. For example, if you take up B.E. Marine Engineering, you learn about the technical aspects of the ship and how it is manufactured. You will be in-charge when the ship is in troubled waters and is not functioning well. Similarly, if you take up B.Sc. Marine Catering, you will work as a part of the hospitality and crew team. B.Sc. Nautical Science is one of the most sought-after courses after marine engineering. There is also a diploma in Nautical Science obtaining which, you can start off as a deck cadet.

Based on your interest in the functionality and the tasks to be done on a merchant ship, you can take up a course. All of these courses are demanding and require excellent health and mental stability. Eye vision must be clear and unaided. You will not even be able to take up the course if you are unhealthy or unfit. The course is strenuous but practical and immensely rewarding. There are only a few institutes all over India that provide extensive and varied courses in maritime studies. Admissions to these institutes are often carried out with the help of an entrance test following by a face-to-face interview. After having completed the course, you also have to pass a ship-training course in order to get employed. Once employed, the job is extremely enjoyable, interesting and fulfilling.
