Did you make any resolutions at the start of 2018? If you didn’t, let’s make a few important ones together, today.

The start of every successive year is marked with new resolutions. Though many of these resolutions may fall by the wayside soon, there are some that can be adopted for a long and happy life. If you didn’t make any resolutions for 2018, you could make some important health-related ones today.

Consider the following resolutions you can make this year for your health:

1 Exercise every day. Daily exercise has tremendous implications in terms of improving fitness, staving off disease and increasing longevity. From improving skin and bone health to removing toxins from the body, and from eliminating bad fats to reducing weight and inches, exercise can keep you in much better shape for years to come.

2 Eat healthy food. It is said that a fit body is not made in the gym, but in the kitchen! A healthy diet comprising all the essential food groups, eaten in moderation and backed by exercise, can go a long way in helping you lose weight, reduce problems like blood pressure, and also reduce the incidence of lifestyle diseases. There are several studies that prove the importance of a balanced, healthy diet in reversing the signs and symptoms of diseases like diabetes.

3 Stress less. A primary reason for poor health in stress. Daily life is quite stressful for most of us, what with familial obligations, inflation, and income not commensurate to our standard of living. There is also the constant pressure to keep above deadlines, finish pending tasks and get time to spend with your loved ones at the end of a working day. Stress has many ill effects, from cutting appetite to causing severe headaches. It can also raise glycaemic levels and elevate heart rate, thus leading to problems like arrhythmia and hypertension. While it may not be possible to eliminate stress entirely, you can reduce its effects with daily meditation, taking frequent breaks from work to breathe deeply, and rest sufficiently every night.

4 Detach from work after reaching home. Another trigger for health issues is overwork. You work so hard to remain competitive at work, that your health begins to suffer from lack of rest. When work consumes your life, you lose the essential work-life balance that you need in order to stay healthy. So follow this rule: No work when you arrive home. Don’t open work emails, don’t discuss work with your family, and don’t look at any digital devices one hour before going to bed. Detaching from work every day is important for a healthy mind and body.

5 Buy health insurance. Though you may not need it at the moment, you must buy a health insurance plan this year. There are several good health insurance plans in India, suited to a variety of age groups and preferences. Health insurance insulates you from the high costs of treatment and hospitalisation in the future. Look up health insurance plans from leading insurance providers, taking care to add important riders like critical illness insurance. You may opt for an individual or family floater health insurance plans in India.
