The main material for calligraphy is fountain pen. These days, you can easily buy calligraphy pens online. The thickness and angles of the nib used and preferred is what makes your unique style.

Selecting a calligraphy fountain pen

Calligraphy fountainpens come in a variety of styles and nib sizes. Different nib types are available for different calligraphic purposes and writing styles. Some of which are discussed as below:

  • Pointed nibs: They have a very fine pointed tip and they are quite elastic. Pointed nibs are mainly used for scripts.
  • Chiseled nibs: These nibs are used for the classic calligraphy styles which are historically relevant. Chiseled nibs can be slanted or straight but the tip is usually broad.
  • Poster nibs: They are similar to the chiselled nibs but much bigger and broader.
  • Round or Monoline nibs: These nibs have an angled plate at the tip that forms a steady monoline stroke.
  • Drawing nibs: They are fine pointy nibs to create fine lines and hatchings.
  • Ballpoint nibs: They have little round ball at the tip which makes writing smooth and easy.
  • Left-handed nibs: Left-handed nibs look just like chiseled nibs but their slant goes in other direction.

Although calligraphy fountain pens are easy to carry around than the ink bottles, they need some basic care and attention:
