Foods to Eat in Indian Summer

During summer, people feel dehydrated. Hence, it is important to take extra care during the summer season. The following foods can be consumed during summer:

Watermelon

Watermelon is a summer seasonal fruit and consists of around 92% of water. It fulfils the required amount of water to the body and helps in staying hydrated. The fruit is abundant in antioxidants and cools during the scorching hot summers.

Curd

Curd is considered as a cooling agent to the body from generations. The best part of consuming this is the number of beverages you can consume. Be it spicy buttermilk or a sweet lassi. People can consume curd with rice or make raita. Another option is by adding seasonal fruits and make  mouth-watering smoothies.

Coconut Water

Coconut is the best summer drink. It gives a naturally sweet taste and is loaded with many minerals, vitamins and other essential nutrients that helps in boosting immunity. Drinking coconut water daily can help beat the heat in summers. Several studies have also shown that people who drink coconut water regularly are less prone to cancer.

Green Leafy Vegetables

Consuming green leafy vegetables has many benefits. These vegetables are usually rich in water content. In order to consume, these vegetables can be cooked in healthy cooking oil or rice bran oil which is rich in oryzanol. Deep frying green leafy vegetables is not advisable as that could create a loss of the water and the nutrient content in them.

Onions

Onions are also well known for having cooling properties that are required in summer. People who  prefer not eating a raw onion can consider making salads using onion. Adding onion to your daily diet can help in protecting against the sun-stroke. Given the benefits rice bran oil, onions can be cooked in rice bran oil.

Lime Water

Lime water also known as nimboo pani in India is another refreshing drink during summer. Lime water provides many health benefits, and the flavour of lime can be enhanced in many ways. Lime water helps in keeping one chilled and refreshed all day long.

Undoubtedly, normal water is something abundantly present and required to keep the body hydrated. Water helps keep the digestive system functioning and facilitate the body to absorb nutrients. It is also important that too much-chilled liquids shouldn’t be taken as they may lead to heat-stroke. Avoiding carbonated beverages and caffeinated drinks is advised. Soft drinks, aerated drinks also reduce the level of mineral in the body. Drinking too much of such drinks would lead to loss of fluids from the body through urine.
