Graphically, MLB The Show 18 stays one of the best looking sports games on the market, no doubt thanks to the fact that it's just made and optimized for the PlayStation 4. Stadiums are true to life, light is exceptional at all times of the day and a number of improvements have been made to the caliber of player models. I adore each of the subtle but powerful improvements made during the title. Players may now wear face masks, the Yankees give the thumbs down big hits and the Mets fanatics are far out from the bleachers yelling it up.
Crowds are now dynamic, meaning a single day game in June will see much less fans from the stands compared to state an intense mid-September showdown while Dodger Stadium sees a slow to arrive crowd -- unless it is the The show 18 stubs playoffs. These small tweaks make The Display 18 feel like a legitimate representation of the sport, and it's this newfound swagger which makes the game feel more fun. The sole downside of the presentation package is that the comment that can still feel disjoined and repetitive at times. It's beginning to fall much behind the superb commentary located in Madden and NBA 2K.
Why the mode was enjoyable
Gameplay is much improved this year, as hitting has been elegant and adjusted to better reflect good swing decisions. Players are rewarded for attacking errors down the centre rather than swinging at good pitches which are painting the corners. I found that whenever I had been patient at the plate my group would find greater success. Pitching remains as accurate as usual, but you're certainly punished more for bad throws. The Show 18 now features a ton of new fielding animations as well, and plays into the ball feel silky smooth. I really could turn double plays with ease and also the ability to fluidly move the ball around the foundations or in from the outfield was noticeably improved. The number of errors committed in The Display 18 is much lower thanks to those changes.
