5 Sound Ways to Soundproof Your Home

Posted by alicebeth on July 5th, 2018

A peaceful home is a happy home. But clang of bells, honking of cars outside, and crash of cymbals rippling through the air can turn your dream of staying in a quiet home into a noisy nightmare. While you choose the home fabric, lighting and furniture based on your comfort quotient, there is always one thing that you may easily overlook – soundproofing. From foam pads to insulation panels and sound isolation clips to acoustical windows and doors, people actually find the soundproofing stuff ugly. However, you can make a number of décor choices that can secretly get placed behind to absorb the excess noise and they don’t skimp on style as well:

1.    Carpet your floors

Carpets not only make your floors awesome but soundproof as well.  Carpeting you floors can stop foot traffic turning into a nuisance in an interior space. If you are not ready to commit to carpeting, well-placed rugs can also do the same trick.

2.    Install sound isolation clips in ceilings

Conventional walls and ceilings are marginally ineffective at blocking annoying sound as they are built like drums. Attaching sound isolation clips to ceiling joists can help ceiling absorb 50 Lbs of sound per clip.

3.    Block noise coming through doors and windows

Doorways and windows in a home are the largest openings. The most effective way to check air moving through doors and windows is – always use solid door panels. Solid wood doors would work better as a sound barrier than hollow-core doors.

4.    Paint your wall with sound-absorbing paint

Soundproofing paint may seem bizarre in the first instance, but it does exist. This is too effective to reduce noise by up to 30%. Though this is little costlier than common paints, having you wall painted with a sound-absorbing paint can absorb excess sound making your home a peaceful place to live.

5.    Get your sound system fine-tuned

You may be unknown of this, but maybe, sound pumping through your entertainment gear is creating a lot of unnecessary household noise. Get your sound system fine-tuned. Buy subwoofer isolation pads from the market and place them beneath the speakers. This will produce the base you want to listen to absorbing exasperating vibrations.

Making a home quiet is all about cutting down on noisemakers and checking movement of sound from one source to another. Employing sound soundproofing techniques in your home can help you minimize overall sound transference fulfilling your dream of having a livable, peaceful and quiet home.
