Mountain Biking in Lake Tahoe: Thrilling Rides Guaranteed

Posted by Miley Munroe on July 12th, 2018

The only time not suitable for mountain biking in Lake Tahoe is when the area is covered with snow. Mountain biking enthusiasts can plan their trips at a time that suits them best without worrying too much about the weather, which usually stays comfortable all through the year. The Tahoe area is home to some of the most popular mountain biking trails, including the Flume Trail. There are dozens of other trails that offer easy and smooth rides. You can either bring your own bike that you are used to riding or rent one from one of the bike rental companies around. Either way, you can expect a fun and adventurous day out.
Let us talk about a few of these mountain biking trails.

We will start with the most famous one - Tahoe Flume Trail. This trail falls in the north of Lake Tahoe. If you are a mountain biker who has experienced plenty of thrills and heights already, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the Flume Trail. You are guaranteed a thrilling ride that is filled with technical challenges, adventure and spectacular views. The difficulty level of this 14-mile one way is moderate. This is not for beginners, but if you have some experience of mountain biking and are joined by a few more bikers, it won’t be much of a problem for you. The elevation of this trail is around 7000-8000 feet with some areas being excessively rocky and steep. Start early to enjoy the ride in cooler weather. It is a famous hiking trail too, so be careful of the pedestrians.

Let us now shift our focus to Tahoe Rim Trail. This is a 20+ mile mountain biking segment that is extremely fun. It runs from Tahoe City to Brockway Summit and has trails that flow through lush surroundings featuring manzanita and pine. This isn’t for beginners either, but intermediate bikers can certainly put their skills to test on this trail. The final five miles of the trail constitute its best. Get ready for banked turns and sudden drop in elevation as you reach the city.

Be an ambassador of the sport and share these trails and all the others with people who share this interest with you. Mountain biking in Tahoe is an activity that attracts locals and visitors alike. For locals, it is close to being a lifestyle. For visitors, it is an experience that satiates their craving for adventure.
