THE IMPORTANCE OF DETOX

Clinical studies are showing that new forms of medication are being introduced to better meet the needs of the patients. One of the newest drugs is Probuphine; the FDA recently approved this drug at the beginning of the year 2016 and it comes in the form of a tine rod that contains buprenorphine.

In contrast to medications that are taken orally on a daily basis, this new drug is a long-lasting implant. The drug is changed every 6 months, which makes it more convenient for the patient.

However, when victims use drugs such as meth and experience drug detox in NJ the symptoms may take anywhere from one to several days to identify. Victims can suffer from symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, or a hoarse voice to name a few. When this takes place the person is often prescribed a medication that will help to ease the discomfort of the withdrawal symptoms.

When it comes to opiate withdrawal a lot of depends on several different factors. Many times’ when victims of substance abuse have to experience withdrawal, a lot of the withdrawal period will heavily depend on how often the person abused the drug in question and how long time they were using opioids.

For example, if the person is addicted to street drugs such as heroin, these persons will usually experience a shorter half-life and minimized withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can begin anywhere from 6-12 hours after their last dose. Many clinics will sometimes combine the prescribed meds with some type of behavioral therapy and when this takes place the clinical name for this is known as medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Research reports that studies show that MATs were integrated into less than half of private treatment programs, however only a little of 30% of the patients actually participated in the MAT treatment plant.

When patients are in an opiate detoxification program, a lot will depend on the severity of the addiction. For example, if a patient is addicted to meth, there are times when the victims are allowed to continue MAT even if they have been incarcerated. This may be due in part to the fact that many prisons do not provide methadone, because there was no policy or protocol in place to help the person become weaned off of meth or any other types of opiates. Which in short meant that many prisoners who are addicted to substance abuse have an extremely difficult withdrawal period.

Studies show that for the most part prisons do not have any system in place to handle opiate withdrawal.

Research has documented the onset of the withdrawal symptom for newborns depends on the half-life of the drug as well and this is in addition to how long the mother took opioids, as well as the timing of the mother’s last dose. As in the adult, all depends on the type of drug taken and the symptoms of NAS can appear with a 24-hour period after the birth of the child. There are also newborns that are exposed to opioids and some have a 55-94% chance of developing what is known as neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) that can have long-lasting effects on the baby’s life cycle. It has been reported the number of babies born with this condition has increased by at least 5 times in the last decade. It is also estimated that approximately every 25 minutes a baby is being born that will suffer from this condition.
