Oligospermia

Definition of oligospermia is a condition in which semen contains less than 20 million sperm per cubic milliliter. When the number of sperm is few, this reduces the likelihood of fertilization of the ovum and pregnancy after marriage. However, there are many men who have a small amount of sperm, yet they are able to have children.

If the cause of oligospermia is known, it is possible to increase their number and solve the problem. In some cases, the couple is forced to undergo fertility treatments to increase the likelihood of pregnancy, while others reach a stage where they are forced to perform laboratory fertilization.

Symptoms of oligospermia

Causes and risk factors of oligospermia

Chromosomal disorders - such as Kleinenter syndrome that result in the presence of chromosome X and Y chromosome in men.

In addition, oligospermia may result from celiac disease, cancers of all kinds, mechanical blockage in seminal ducts, certain types of drugs, exposure to chemicals, heavy metals, radiation, prolonged cycling and high temperatures in the testes area. All these things may be the reasons given for the low number of sperm.

The wrong lifestyle, which involves drinking alcohol in large quantities, can also be used to treat various types of drugs (especially steroid - artificial hormones to stimulate muscles), smoking, and stress, vitamin deficiencies, Causes lead to oligospermia.

Complications of oligospermia

The main complications of oligospermia are psychological complications mainly due to stress and psychological discomfort caused by infertility.
