People make it a point to travel as much as they can while they are young. Now that social media has a love for “travel-lusting” photos; people are also posting their Instagram-worthy travel photos to show that they are living the life. The good news is you do not need a big budget to travel out of the country. Here are some tips and ideas for you to have the best way to save money when you go moving:

Fare

  • It is no secret that airfare is cheaper during off-peak season. However, you can still visit during peak season with a cheap ticket by booking your flight months ahead of time.
  • Travellers often save money on airfare by flying into airports near their final destination and taking a bus or train from there.
  • Choosing unpopular hours for your flight also means cheaper fare. Take an early morning flight or a red-eye flight.
  • If you travel often, it is best to join a frequent flyer program. This allows you to earn points every time you travel, and the accumulated points can give you cheaper fares, upgrades, and even free flights.

Accommodation

  • If you are staying for a week or more, renting an apartment instead of a hotel is a cheaper option. You do not only get more affordable accommodation, but you also get your kitchen, which means you do not have to eat out all the time because you can cook. This is also the best option if you are travelling with family or with a group of friends.
  • If you do not mind toughing it out, why not go camping? Campers are welcome in national parks and beaches. Just make sure to keep your guard up and secure your belongings.
  • If you want to skip out on accommodations, you can do your travelling at nighttime. This way, you sleep on the plane, train, or bus.
  • When staying in a hotel, choose one that offers free breakfast. That way, you got the most important meal of the day solved and out of your food budget.

 Food

  • Avoid eating in places near tourist attractions. The menu will be expensive there. Just walk three blocks away in any direction, and you will find cheaper local restaurants.
  • If you are staying in a hostel or a hotel or somewhere that does not have a kitchen, you can hit the markets and make yourself a sandwich for your meal.
  • Do not eat out at dinnertime. The dinner menu in restaurants, especially in Europe, are more expensive compared to their list for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Do the fancy eating for lunch and then try the street food or favourite local restaurants at dinnertime to save money.

 Touring around

  • Visit the local tourist office and get a card. Most tourism offices offer cards that give you free entry or discounts to attractions, restaurants, and tour services.
  • Walk as much as you can. Walking may mean you are going around at a slower pace, but it gives you more time to appreciate everything around you and observe how the locals are. Plus, it is free! If you want to go around at a faster pace, why not rent a bike?

Travelling is one of the best ways to escape life’s daily routines and make beautiful memories that you would love to look back on. It’s an experience everyone should try no matter how much money they have and make. With these tips, you will surely be able to see the world without breaking your bank account.
