Booking a church for a wedding should be handled much in the same way you handle the rest of your vendor selection. Even if you are planning on using your home church, there is the need for securing some basic information. Before you put any money down as a deposit on holding a church, you'll need to know the following 6 things:

Size of the church

Is the church the right size for your guest list. You don't want to have a situation where the church is 3/4 empty, nor do you want people having to stand up for the entire ceremony.

Availability of the church

Be sure to ask if the church is available for the date and specific time you want to hold your wedding. As obvious as this sounds, many think their home church will be available anytime they want it. Check to see if there are any other events planned at the church the day you want to hold your wedding. Ask how they may impact your wedding. Don't forget to ask about availability for your rehearsal as well.

Does the church have any religious requirements?

One of the first things you should find out about is if the church requires both of you to be part of the congregation in order to be married there. They may even require you or your spouse to be to convert to that particular church's denomination. Ask about any premarital counseling as well. Some won't marry you without it. If there are specific requirements, ensure that both you AND your spouse are willing to meet the requirements. If not, find another location.

Are there any restrictions on your ceremony?

There are some churches or particular clergymen that will not permit you to personalize your service. This may include not being able to play specific music or readings. They may only be willing to offer a standard ceremony. In addition, some churches may require that you utilize their organist only, which will in all likelihood limit your music selection. Be sure to find out if there are are any restrictions on photography or Videographer.

In some cases, a church may have regulations pertaining to attire. For example, bare arms or legs may not be permitted. If this is the case in your church, be sure to include the cost of a bridal jacket or wrap into your budget for use during the ceremony.

What's included in the service?

Some churches will provide pew decorations, aisle runners and may even permit you to use their altar decorations. Check to see if these are included in the cost of the church rental. Otherwise, you may be surprised to be hit with an additional bill for these decorations

Find out if there are any extra costs on top of the rental fee

Some churches require that you pay a cleaning fee. Many will waive this fee if you agree to refund this fee if you have someone in your party clean up after the ceremony takes place. Other extra charges could include parking and coat check services Affordable Wedding Rentals Los Angeles.

After you've come up with all the information you'll need, you and your spouse to be will want to sit down and discuss the pros and cons of all the churches you've checked out. Depending on your circumstances, you may very well find that some of these restrictions are deal breakers. Be sure to take each others considerations into account! Failing to do so could lead to hurt feelings or resentment. In some cases, your spouse to be won't care about the restrictions and will only want to do what makes you happy.
