5 Driving Test Changes

Posted by Lily James on August 7th, 2018

DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency) has changed a couple of driving test criteria to make it more accurate and examine the quality of candidates. DVSA has decided to give a trial of 4th amendments in February 2015 to see how effective this could be! According to this plan, there are 850 driving structures, and 4500 number of students are going through this practical test. Now they started to expand this trial all over the UK including Wales and Scotland from 4th December 2017. Now let's take a look at five driving test changes that DVSA made.

1. Maneuvering

Considering the previous rules, we only know two kinds of Maneuvering test given by instructors. One, reverse a corner, Two, take a turn on the road. These two rules are now not applicable and they are replaced with three Maneuvering test including:

  1. Park in a bay - Instructor will request you to drive in or reverse out.
  2. Parallel Park: Parking your car at the side of a road.
  3. Pull up the right side of the road: This includes reversing the car and keeps a minimum distance from other cars.

2. Independent Driving

Now instructors are giving directions to drive independently. They are giving the map or directions to candidates without instructing do's and don'ts. Drivers have to navigate their cars to those directions all through by himself. In the meantime, instructors are marking you how you drive, how you respond to traffic lights and signals, etc.

3. Highway Driving

Previously, learning candidates are not allowed to drive in highway unless they are experienced and professional. However, these new changes allow them taking their lessons on the motorway or highway. So that, they can easily understand what type of crowded road they are going to handle.

4. Show Me, Tell Me - Q&A

With previous rules and regulations, drivers are only asked to show me and tell me questions, but after the new driving test changes, now instructors are asking the questions while candidates are driving. The questions are like "demonstrate how the wipers work", "show me how to clean the windscreen", etc.

5. Little Changes in Learning

DVSA has given attention more to driving theory lessons. DVSA was noticed that some students who were weak in theory but good at the practical driving test. Hence, DVSA is a little bit strict in theory driving now.

Hope this article will help to understand some new changes by DVSA. If you have any question, please send your query at testfinder.co.uk. They also can help you to get an early driving test date. Thanks!
