IT Support for Business

If you need some help with your IT support it can be difficult to know where to turn. There are lots of IT support companies offering different services and packages but how do you decide which one is best for you. Here is some helpful advice.

  • Make sure you understand completely what services are being offered. IT is full of technological terms, jargon and acronyms that can be new to people not in the industry. However a good IT support company will always take the time to explain each service using language that is easy to understand whatever your level of IT expertise. If you are made to feel uncomfortable asking questions perhaps you should think about trying another IT support company.
  • Make sure they show a real interest in YOUR business. The whole point of employing an IT support company is to improve the efficiency and productivity of your company. If they don’t show any real interest at this stage when they are trying to impress you, it is highly likely that this lack of interest will be even more of an issue after you sign up. A good IT support company will need to have a good understanding of you business so that they are able to suggest the best ways to improve it. This means they should be asking you lots of questions, if they aren’t, alarms bells should be ringing.
  • Reviews and testimonials should be thoroughly checked. Try and look specifically for reviews from businesses that are similar to your own one. This can also be an easy way to find out more about the types of support they provide.
  • Think about how much support your business actually needs. Larger companies may require round the clock support whereas smaller businesses may only need support on an ad-hoc basis. To make sure that you are not paying for support that you don’t need, find an IT support company that has the flexibility to provide different levels of support.
  • Always read the small print. It is the thing that is most often overlooked and it often contains some of the most important information about your support contract. If you don’t understand what some of the information means or how it will affect your business don’t be shy to ask for it to be explained more clearly to you. It is much better to clear up things you are not sure about now, before you sign up to a support contract that can tie you in for a year, rather than argue about it later when you are faced with a bill you don’t agree with.
  • Ask about ‘response times’. A good IT support company will offer ‘guaranteed response times’ for serious problems as well as service level agreements (SLAs). Make sure that you know exactly what types of situation these response times will apply to. Remember that anything that will stop your business doing business will cost you money and should be dealt with as a priority.
