Introducing them to new ingredients and cooking at a young age kindles a curiosity in food, tastes and healthy eating, learning to cook is an excellent step in healthy habits. Some skills that your kids can learn through cooking are....

Math:
Cooking is an excellent way to introduce math to your young kids. Weighing and measuring, counting, shapes, sizes, and volume can all be covered when preparing a simple recipe. Vocabulary like “more than” and ‘less than’ can also be learned when measuring ingredients.

Science:
Science plays an important role in cooking. It is an excellent way to show your kids how objects change during mixing and cooking – chocolate will melt when heated, sugar will liquefy in hot water, and liquid cake mix will become solid when baked. Concepts such as mixing, baking, freezing, melting, floating and sinking all can be demonstrated.

Coordination & fine motor skills:
Quite a lot of physical skills are required when cooking. Tasks like grabbing a spoon, blending, stirring, rolling, kneading, pouring, chopping and peeling all help improve fine motor skills and coordination of your little one.

Emotional and social development:
Cooking can be a social activity, particularly if kids take part in this activity with a friend or sibling. They’ll learn to share, take turns and relish in an activity together. In addition, don’t forget the best part – sitting down together and eating what you have made!

Sharing a special family recipe, cooking for a holiday, or making special treats for a friend’s birthday are excellent ways to create lasting memories that your little one will cherish forever.

Language & Literacy:
There are several ways to enhance literacy skills of your child through cooking. They’ll learn new words, names of ingredients and equipment in the kitchen.

Improve taste buds:
Children who learn to cook are much more enthusiastic to try new foods, tastes and textures.

Improves responsibility:
From following a recipe and learning how to securely handle kitchen appliances to cleaning up spills and and putting things away, helping in the kitchen offers ample opportunities for kids and teens to learn responsibility.
