AC Power SPD ? Against the disruption of functioning and loss of value

The interruption in the normal flow of electricity is cause of power surges. There are a number of troubles and issues associated with these events. Some of the issues can be the malfunctioning of the linked equipments or there can also be complete equipment cutoff and damage. Keeping track of the voltage entering in the equipments is an option for detecting the presence of transients through it. It enters in your facility through the direct lightning that hits on the telephone lines or cable TV lines. The switching activities are another considerable cause for the surges. More than 50% of the devices indoors are sensitive and susceptible to overvoltage transients. Even a tiny inconsistency in the incoming voltage can cause major disruption in the proper working.

For monitoring the voltage levels and avoid the burning out of the circuits and the metal parts, Protection units are installed at the mains supply line and also at the equipment level. The voltage level should be checked for the phase to phase, phase to ground, phase to neutral and neutral to ground. According to the applications the AC power surge protector are divided into different models for both single phase and three phase protection.

•      Class B surge protection unit – They are designed considering the protection of equipments in LPZ 0-1.  It is installed along with the main supply board network of the facility. This compact product is a pluggable module to lower the intensity of current discharge in 10/350µs.

•      Class C protector units – It is most commonly used efficient modules for the protection against switching surges in 8/20µs for the equipment in LPZ 1-2. They are supposed to be installed before the equipment to avoid equipment downtime and malfunctioning.

•      Class B+C protector units – There are some appliances that require the incorporation of both lightning and switching protector units in it. For this blend of dual protection in one module, a special and upgraded version came into existence. It gives combined protection in 10/350µs and 8/20µs.

The placement of protection devices can minimize the overvoltage and the clamp the voltage to the threshold level or otherwise they will appear at the equipment terminal.
