With the increase in petrol & diesel prices in the last few years, the fuel has become an expensive commodity. Telling one to avoid the use of a vehicle is next to impossible, likewise, buying the most fuel-efficient vehicle is not a solution to the problem as the fuel prices keep soaring over time but making use of the below tips & tricks will definitely help one save on fuel while commuting.

1. Avoid Aggressive Driving:

Driving too fast and frequent braking can both lead to higher fuel consumption thereby affecting the vehicle economy.

2. Maintain Speed Limit:

For most of the vehicles, it’s advisable to drive between 60 kmph and 80 kmph for better fuel efficiency, though the speed limit varies based on driving conditions & vehicle itself. Based on researches, vehicles speeding beyond 80 Kmph is bound to exhibit low fuel efficiency. 

3. Avoid Carrying Unnecessary Weights:

Your vehicle is likely to give less mileage if you burden it with excess weight. So, remove unnecessary items in your vehicle like toolboxes, roof racks etc. when not in use.

4. Regular Servicing is a Requisite:

Your vehicle undergoes wear & tear over time, so it is important to get your vehicle serviced from authorized service centers regularly for oil checks, brake pads etc. for the smooth functioning of it.

5. Drive with Your Windows Closed on Highways:

Highway driving is done at a higher speed. Driving vehicle on a highway with windows open increases the drag on the vehicle thereby increasing the fuel consumption by 10%.

6. Limit Air Conditioning While Driving:

Limit the use of AC while driving as usage of AC create a load on the vehicle engine contributing to more fuel consumption.

7. Maintain Tire Pressure:

Check the tire pressure once a week & ensure to maintain the tire pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

8. Check the Wheel Alignment:

Ensure that the wheel alignment is correct & brakes aren't dragging as these can induce higher fuel consumption.

9. Use the Most Fuel Efficient Car:

If you have two cars then use the most fuel efficient car whenever possible unless the other one is required.

10. Use Your Car Less:

We are not asking you to avoid it completely, rather we are encouraging the use of public transport, carpooling, walking or riding a bike as much as possible.
