Umrah, also known as the 'lesser pilgrimage' or 'minor pilgrimage' is an Islamic pilgrimage undertaken by numerous Muslims across the world to the holy city of Makkah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Umrah is not compulsory for Muslims when compared to the major pilgrimage of Hajj, which is an obligation for all the physically and financially capable Muslims. However, since it is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), many of the Muslims undertake the minor pilgrimage from their place of residence in order to reap the spiritual rewards associated with it.

An Umrah in November gives Muslims living in the United Kingdom the chance to perform their lesser pilgrimage in the presence of a relatively pleasant climate as compared to the summer months. As the weather in this part of the world is of the hot desert type, the daytime temperatures during the summer months can be extremely hot and uncomfortable. The city experiences a small amount of rainfall during the months of November, December, and January. Although the rainfall is scant, there have been events of flooding in Makkah in the past owing to unexpected, heavy rainfall. Over the years, the threat of floods has been reduced to a great extent with the construction of dams by the Saudi authorities, much to the relief of the residents and pilgrims.

The November Umrah packages offered by various tour operators based in the UK would give Muslims living in the country the chance to perform their lesser pilgrimage without any hassles. Such packages also give them ample opportunities to visit the revered Islamic sites in and around Makkah during their time spent in the city. One of them is the Jabal al-Noor, which means 'Mountain of Light'. This sacred mountain located in the Hejazi region near the holy city is of great significance for all Muslims as it houses the 'Cave of Hira'.

It is the cave where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) spent a considerable amount of time in contemplation and received his first revelation of the Holy Quran. Besides the packages for Umrah November month has in store for Muslims of the UK through several tour operators or travel companies of the country, it would also give them the chance to explore the Jabal al-Rahmah. It means ‘Mount of Mercy’. This is the place where the first prophet Adam (peace be upon him) was forgiven for his sin. A pillar has also been erected to show the exact spot where this event took place.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had delivered his 'Farewell Sermon' towards the end of his life at this place to all those who had come with him for Hajj. During their time in Makkah, the pilgrims can travel towards the eastern frontier of the holy city to visit another sacred mountain called Abu Qubais. It is believed that this mountain was known as al-Amin during the times when this region was inhabited by the pagan Arabs. Another popular local legend states that this was believed to have been the place where the first of men lived and died.
