The Benefit Battle Between iOS & Android App.

The only two names that ring a bell when it comes to app development are Apple and Google for their respective platforms i,e. iOS and Android. We are briefly going to discuss the advantages and disadvantages that each one of them presents in the app development process.

iOS App Development

iOS intensively uses XCode IDE in parallel with iOS SDK for the iOS app development. XCode supports multiple programming languages and so is used for iOS apps. There is also a shift among new iOS developers to lean towards Swift as their preferred programming language which is created by Apple for iOS & OSX. It is based on Objective C language and developers who are equally acquainted with other programming languages like Objective C, JavaScript, Python, etc can also go for XCode.

Swift programming language is an open source platform hence, can be used on other platforms as well. Another aspect of Swift is Cocoa Touch which is an API used to build iOS user-interface elements. Ultimately, one will require the knowledge of Cocoa Touch framework to develop iOS apps.

Android App Development

Talking about a completely different side of the same technology is Google’s Android. Android Studio, based on Java remains the official IDE for Android platform. Java is the most preferred one by developers while Android Studio provides robust performance with fewer bugs.

As Swift remains the open source programming language, Android Studio can also be used on Mac. Hence, nurtured and developed in a completely different architecture,  they both present their own advantages and disadvantages. Without further ado, let’s have a glance at it.

Market Share

Android’s dominance is more in Asian and African market industry while Apple has its roots in US & Europe. Android has clearly captured more part in this segment as compared to iOS because of various reasons. Let’s check them out:

  • Android is offered in many different handsets and other devices from companies such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Huawei, etc, hence more choice to a customer

  • More choices mean more competition. Hence, Android smartphones are budget friendly for a user

  • The major difference comes in Cost per Installation is way below than that of iOS.

Number of App Downloads

While Android has crossed the 3 Million mark in the number of apps available on the Google Play Store, iOS is yet will take some more time to reach up to the current benchmark set by Android.

Time-Frame

This is another crucial factor, as the amount of time an app will take to reach the final development stage is directly proportional to the development cost of the app. So more time is going to be costlier. Android has more OS versions and so contributes to being a bit tougher to develop apps than iOS. Hence, Android app development process takes more time than iOS. On the other hand, iOS app developers get the benefit of having universal and open source language programming which makes it easier.

Publishing Time On The Store

A sigh of relief from the Android app developers as Google Play Store takes lesser time than Apple to publish an app on the store. Additionally, publishing an app in Google Play Store is a just a one-time investment but that is not the case with iOS. You’ll have to incur a cost every time you upgrade and upload the new version of the app.

Profits

App store developers earn a decent profit from that of Android app developers even though the number of downloads and uploads are more for Google. On the contrary, based on a survey, a sheer number of Apple users won’t mind spending more on the app purchases.

Google Play Store could only generate around half of Apple revenue while it was skyrocketing with .5 billion wherein Google only stood around .1 billion in 2017.

Conclusion:

Both of the platforms have their own respective pros and cons while catering to all kinds of customers from around the world. Though they do stand out and lack while put on the comparison list, however, devices and technology have become more personal lately leading to many choices, likes and dislikes in terms of design, configurations and personal preferences.
