The Procedures Involved In Cold Storage Supply Chain

In the present fast moving world, people do not have time to wait for anything. They want everything to be fast and quick like their orders, promotions etc. So, it has become essential to preserve things for future use to avoid the long waiting time etc. For this purpose of preserving things to be used in the future, we need an unchanging environment. This can be easily done with Cold Storage Supply Chain.

It is a supply chain in which the temperature is being controlled. The technology used is the refrigeration. This chain includes various refrigerated procedures, some storage and distribution procedures. It also consists of some equipment and logistics that helps in maintaining the required range of temperature. With these services, we can preserve various products like food, e.g. seafood, frozen food etc. and the medicines etc.

It involves two types of storages- Storage Surfaces and Refrigerated Transportation. Storage surfaces include warehouses while Refrigerated transportation may consist of various trucks, containers, trains and ships or any other movable resource to transport the products like Edibles and Vaccines etc. that will decay soon because of the temperature variance.

The procedures involved in Cold Storage Supply Chainare minimal. The few out of these are very common and compulsory too. In the following bulleted points, you will find few of those kinds.

  • Packaging of Items:

It involves the packaging procedure of various items to be cooled. This packaging is required two times- first is when the items are being taken to the storage space and second is when the items are taken out for delivery from the storage to the outside market. The first one is needed in mass while the second one depends on the demands.

  • Pre-cooling or Cold Storage:

This is the primary procedure involved in cold storage supply chain. It is the main part of the chain. The various items like vegetables, fruits etc. need different temperatures to sustain for a long duration. These are kept at separate section inside cold storage for a precooling purpose. Precooling is required before keeping any item at a fix temperature. Suppose we need to keep an edible at 5 degree and presently it is at 17 degrees. So the process of reducing the temperature from 17 degrees to 5 degrees is precooling.

  • Refrigerated Transportation:

It is the last part of the cold storage supply chain. It is essential as without it there is no meaning of keeping the items preserve. With the help of transportation only we can send the stored things to the market or directly to the customer's address. It is a little-advanced type of transportation that has spaces for the items with the cooling technology where the same temperature can be maintained as per our requirement.

The Cold Storage Supply Chain cannot be completed without these procedures. At present, it has become essential to keep so many items preserved at home also. People are using various mass storage refrigerators at home too.
