The Significance of Cylindrical Bearings Which You Need To Know

Posted by rima chauhan on September 20th, 2018

Bearings are one of the most elements in any machinery, whether it is in automobiles or electronic gadgets, bearings play important role by reducing friction between two mating parts of. Depending on the applications different materials are used in bearings.

There are many types of bearing available in different specifications. Each and every bearing has its own application and hence it is very difficult to choose the correct size of bearing without an expert advice.  Some of the types of bearing available are Ball bearing, Spherical bearing, cylindrical bearing, Thrust roller bearing, Needle thrust roller etc.

Aspects and applications of cylindrical bearings
Cylindrical bearings consist of cylinders used as in the place of balls in ball bearings. These cylinders have more linear contact area because the outer ring distributes the force transversely on a broader surface. Consequently, the cylinders have a comparatively elevated radial load resistance suited for high speeds.

The advantages of cylindrical bearings are

  1. Minimize drag.
  2. Reduce heat
  3. Perform better
  4. Durability with minimum maintenance cost

There are many types of cylindrical bearings available
Single Row Cylindrical bearings
These types of bearing consist of single row of cylinders that incorporate a single cage design, with specific internal geometry and surface quality. These bearings are available indifferent specifications, size ranges and configurations suited for different applications.

These bearing have integral flanges both on the inner and the outer rings, with the capacity to permit little axial displacements and withstand one-directional axial loads.

Double Row Cylindrical bearings
Double-row or two-row cylindrical bearings have two rows of cylinders in them to provide more radial capacity. These cylinders are interchangeable. These bearings are used in gear drives, and machine tools, rolling mills and are designed to provide more power to withstand radial load applications.

Multiple Row Cylindrical bearings
Four-row or multiple row cylindrical bearings withstand the daily use rigors of machineries and gadgets. These bearings are applied in machines where have average and high speeds, elevated radial loads, high temperatures and excessive debris present.

Cylindrical and spherical ball bearing
Apart from the above mentioned category there are cylindrical bearings available which has a combination of both cylindrical and spherical ball bearing and cylindrical and spherical plain bearing combinations designs which are ideal for axial displacement and misalignment. Cylindrical bearings are available on Pressed steel or machined brass cages or polyamide cages based on the application. In many cases they are also available without cages to serve higher loads depending on the speed.
