Chana Dal Khichdi: The Delicious Fusion With Rice

Rice could be enjoyed very well with lentils (dal) or the veggies in pulao form. So, the Chana Dal Khichdi is a yummy rice item which is definitely going to be the next sensation for you. It is not an usual khichdi which we cook at our home, it’s more kind of a pulao which tastes fantabulous. The Punjabi recipe is made by using chana dal, onion, basmati rice, fennel, garlic-ginger & cumin seeds. It is so tempting & best to have with the raita or fresh curd, salad. But you could have joy with pickle alongside too. You could simply make the dish in half an hour & make your day happier.

Ingredients for Chana Dal Khichdi:

  • chana dal-1 cup

  • minced garlic-2 cloves

  • grated ginger-2 teaspoon

  • red chilli powder as needed

  • sliced coriander leaves-2 teaspoon

  • cumin seeds-1 teaspoon

  • basmati rice-1 cup large onion-1

  • salt as needed

  • water-6 cup

  • fennel seeds-1/2 teaspoon

  • water-6 cup

How to prepare Chana Dal Khichdi:

Step 1) To make this delicious recipe, first clean rice in water & soak in water for around twenty to twenty five minutes. Now, clean chana dal in water & place it beside.

Step 2) Once the rice are soaked, take a saucepan, pour oil into it & heat over moderate flame. Now, drop cumin seeds, ginger, fennel seeds, garlic in the vessel & saute for one minute or two.

Step 3) Now, drop sliced onion in the vessel & saute till the onion is transparent. Drop salt & red chili powder into the pan & cook for like thirty to forty secs. Next, include the chana dal & cook for around two to five mins, & then add 2 cups of water to the vessel & stir to mix finely all the components.

Step 4) Close the vessel with a lid & cook the chana dal for four to five mins till it gets tendered. Add basmati rice & mix properly. Pour the remaining water & close the pan again with the lid, cook the rice & dal till the water is absorbed.

Step 5) When the khichdi is cooked, garnish with sliced coriander leaves.
