Dental crowns

Dental Crown is a tooth cover that is applied to the tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and appearance. When Crown placed in its place, it covers the entire visible portion of the tooth that is located above the gum line.

Why do you need a dental crown?

Dental crown may be needed in the following cases:

To protect weak teeth (such as tooth decay) from damage

To maintain the cohesion of broken or cracked teeth parts

To restore the shape and strength of the broken tooth

After treating the roots of the teeth (nerve treatment) to protect the tooth

To cover and strengthen teeth that has large filler

To cover the teeth formed by abnormal

To cover the teeth whose color is abnormal

To make cosmetic adjustments

Children's dental crown can be used to:

Protect teeth damaged by caries and can not use dental fillings

Protect your baby's teeth from the risk of tooth decay especially when the baby has difficulty practicing daily oral hygiene

In such cases, the pediatric dentist is likely to recommend a stainless steel crown

Why are dental crowns so expensive?

Dental crowns are so expensive, because dentists have to use modern techniques and materials. The materials are so expensive, because it is used as the natural teeth. Dental crowns are the same shape and color of the natural teeth.  Dental crowns are used from expensive materials such as:

Stainless steel crown: It is used with permanent teeth as a temporary measure to protect the teeth while the permanent crown is made from another material. The stainless steel crown is commonly used in children as it is more suitable than primary milk teeth. When the primary white teeth fall to make room for the permanent teeth, the crown naturally comes out with it. In general, the stainless steel crown is used for children's teeth because it does not require multiple visits and less expensive.

Metal crown: Includes gold alloys and other alloys (palladium, nickel and chromium). The metal crown bites, chews, and rarely brakes. The main disadvantage of the metal crown is its glossy color so it is used in the back teeth.

The crown of porcelain above the metal: It is identical to the color of the next teeth (unlike the crown of the metal). However, it causes erosion in the opposite teeth compared to the crown of the metal or acrylic resin crown. The porcelain crown above the metal appears in its appearance, like most normal teeth. But sometimes the metal can appear as a dark line at the gum line and more often if the gums are receding. A porcelain crown above the metal can be a good choice for the front or rear teeth.

Crown Acrylic Resin: It is less expensive than other types of crowns and is more likely to break over time.

Ceramic or porcelain crown: Its color appears as a natural tooth color and is suitable for people with allergies from the metal crown. However, they are not as strong as porcelain over metal and cause erosion of corresponding teeth. The porcelain crown is a good choice for the front teeth.

Temporary crown: Made at the dentist's clinic. It is used temporarily until the permanent dental crown is completed in the dental lab.
