Do?s and Don?ts for SAT Exam

Posted by Genius Learnings on October 1st, 2018

Taking the SAT exam can really be overwhelming even for well-prepared students. However, you can do one thing for yourself – do not take on the stress and you will do great.

Apart from this, there are some do’s and don’ts that you may keep in mind while preparing for the SAT exam. So let us get started with the important do’s first:

  • DO get to your bed early before the exam night. There are students who study day and night and forget how important their sleep is for test performance and critical thinking. Sleep at least 7-8 hours before a week of SAT exam. It is essential.
  • DO wake up early at least 2-3 hours before the test (or as per the location of your centre). You definitely want your brain to perform well. Hence, it is imperative to avoid grogginess on the day of the SAT exam. For this, give yourself enough time in the morning to wear off the sluggishness.
  • DO warm up on the exam day. Have you ever heard of an athletic event taking place without stretching or warming-up? Maybe no, so it is important for you to stretch your brain. You can try a crossword or a Sudoku puzzle or simply revise a few important sections. But, do not tire yourself with these activities. Just enough to make sure that your mind is active at the time of the exam.
  • DO eat only healthy food. This may include fruits, complex carbohydrates and proteins. You can bring any other healthy snack of your choice to maintain your energy levels.

So these are some important do’s a student may follow. Now take a look at some don’ts of this important exam:

  • DON’T learn anything new just before the exam. By this point, you either confuse it or understand it. The chances of confusion are higher indeed. And this can cause unnecessary anxiety and stress at exam time. Even if you have joined SAT coaching in Delhi NCR, when you are well-prepared and confident, there is no need to put yourself under pressure.
  • DON’T keep yourself awake all night surfing Facebook or chatting. Instead, you can read your favourite book, go for a walk, play in the park or do anything that can keep your mind and body relax and sharp at the same time.
  • DON’T roll out of your bed at the last moment on the day of the exam. Waking up too late or close to the exam time can put you in a fog. So, sleep early and wake up early to keep your mind calm.
  • DON’T change your regular diet before the exam. When you do not know what ingredient can harm you, it is better to stick to your normal diet. Changes in diet may make you ill and disrupt your focus.

No matter what exam you are taking, these do’s and don’ts will help you. Two other things equally helpful are psychometric testing and career counselling. If possible, see a career counsellor who provides these services. And keep these points in mind and enjoy your success.
