IT Planning at ModMeters Case Study

The ModMeters Case Study is based on the ModMeters Company, which is located in North America. The company is looking at expanding its operations and services globally. The challenge comes up with the project by the fact that most of the executive management board of the organization has an agreement with the project, but the CIO differs from the proposal of the project. The project development is in a situation that the company has been subjected to some openly identified problems through the miscommunication that exist within the entire company (McKeen & Smith, 2012). There are several identical issues that can be highlighted from the study and analysis of the ModMeters Company such that upon addressing them the company will be able to regain its level of operations. Some of the issues may include,

  • The ModMeters Company failed plans of expanding the operations globally to other parts of the global such as Asia and Eastern Europe;
  • By the essence of the company still operating with the old systems and the miscommunication, the IT-related budget allocation is tightly controlled;
  • There is the misallocation of the funds with the limited figures allocated to the IT section;
  • The current IT systems are not compatible such that there is no direct communication does limit the expansion;
  • There is no a well-established communication channel link and policy within the entire organization;
  • There is the issue of setting up some direct customer sales;
  • Employees are only committed to fulfilling their needs and demands;

 Hefty hardware case

The use of different technology within organization aims at ensuring that the services are well improved and provided according to the anticipated level. The hefty case outlines the issues that arisen with the adoption of the information technology mechanism to undertake the different activities of the organization. In any case, communication is a building block to good management as it provides good mutual understanding and teamwork.

Based on the study done and the understanding of the hefty hardware case, there are two identical problems that can be highlighted from the organization that is totally impacting negatively to the delivery of the services. Primarily, there is a huge gap that has been created between the information technology department and the business section of the organization. There is no longer collaboration that may enable the provision of ways of handling the different issues and the modes of improving the business operations. The second depicted issue within the hefty hardware is the existing weak communication channels, policies, and procedures. There is no a well-established communication channel for the conveying and sharing of information for sound decision making that reflects on the quality of management (Avanade. 2014).

How effective is the partnership between IT and the business at ModMeters? Identify the shortcomings of both IT and the business.

There are identical issues that exist more so the lack of the communication between the IT department and the business department. This provides the evidence that the partnership between the two sections does no longer function. There is no way that strategized plans can be provided to drive both the business and IT strategies thus the organization missing a sophisticated information systems strategy triangle. There some shortcomings such as the failure of the IT staffs not having a good understanding of the business function. The IT folks fail to relate to the business needs.

Create a written plan for 1) How each of the IT projects contributes to key corporate objectives 2) Determine a way to value each so ModMeters can prioritize 3) Consider IT regeneration to support new and sustaining project work.

First, there is the essence of ensuring a good understanding of the business requirements by the entire organization staff. The development of the projects should have to adopt defined procedures to ensure that the needs of the business can easily integrate within the organization. Teamwork should be the core of the organization with the IT accounts manager acting as the bridge between IT section and business section. Communication policies and procedures should be well revised (CIO, 2014).
