Naan is an Indian food item that tastes best with any gravy dish or curry. But have you ever tried Peshwari Naan? Peshwari Naan, also sometimes spelt as Peshawari Naan, is a type of Naan that can make you forget the usual boring Naan. It is a filling of coconuts and dried fruits. Best for the people who crave for sweet Indian bread.

Ingredients:

  • 2½ teaspoon sesame seeds (til)
  • 1 tablespoon almond powder (badam powder)
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped pistachios (pistas)
  • 1oz sultanas
  • 1 tablespoon coconut powder
  • 2 tablespoon desiccated coconut, plus more for sprinkling
  • 2 tablespoon caster sugar
  • 4 tablespoon single cream
  • 1 teaspoon mango pulp
  • 4 cups refined flour, plus more for rolling
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2½ teaspoon kalonji (onion seeds)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon rosewater (optional)
  • 2½ teaspoon sugar
  • Salt as per taste requirement

Making of Peshwari Naan:

1. Firstly prepare the filling. To prepare the filling, mix together sesame seeds, badam powder, pistas, sultanas, coconut powder, caster sugar, single cream, rosewater (optional) and mango pulp. Mix all these and create a dough paste. Then divide into 4 equal parts.

2. Now time to shape the dough for Naan. For forming the dough, take refined flour in a bowl and add baking powder and salt. Then add the oil in the mixture by making a small circle in the center. Now, combine the sugar, egg, milk and make a dough. Then add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water and again knead the dough. The dough should be medium-soft. If it appears sticky, don't panic. Keep kneading the dough for few more minutes. Add oil if required.

3. Once you feel that the dough is smooth and elastic, cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside. Doing this will just double the dough.

4. Now, preheat the oven at the maximum temperature and then place a heavy baking sheet. Let it heat as well.

5. Now make the small balls of the dough and roll into thick circles. Now, take the filling and place it on the circle leaving about an inch around the edges.

6. Wet the dough around the edges with water and fold each circle and create small ball by pinching the dough around the edges.

7. Then again roll the filled ball into a circle. Sprinkle some sesame seeds.

8. Time to place the naan over the hot baking sheet. Let it bake for about 1 to 2 minutes. Once it gets brown on the surface, brush with the melted butter and serve hot.

Delicious Peshwari Naan is all ready to serve. Enjoy eating solely or with whatever you feel like. Any gravy dish or raita.
