Reflection paper

The movie tends to be an excellent Greek tragedy. In the play, it opens with a debate between sisters on which law comes first whether it is the religious duty of citizens or the civil duty. One of the sisters decides to bury her brother despite the king claiming that he should not be buried; however, the sister feels it is a secret duty that she should fulfill. The sister goes ahead to bury her brother as she believes that God will be happy with her actions. The implication of the play to the Greek society is that it shows how things are changing. In Greek society, women were not allowed to talk in any way that Antigone talked to Creon. Antigone is not a model woman in the Greek society; however, she indicates what a person can do to their family when the need arises.

Something that I consider appealing in the play is the emotion it creates. The emotions of Antigone does add to the suspense in the play; thus, allowing the point of view of the character to be vividly played. The play uses emotions that make the viewer feel closer to the characters. So as to make the setting more Athenian, the play should consider having more tragedies among characters than only Antigone.

A current event that does compare with Antigone experience is the issue of confusion on whether to support gay people. Some government and some religions do support the gays and gay rights; however, some are completely against the issue. With the difference, it brings the confusion on whether to observe the religious duty or the civil duty.
