Learning disabilities discussionPosted by Winnie Melda on October 16th, 2018 ADHD is a common condition, that affect children and the best advice I would give is to consider the doctors recommended medication which is one of the best available treatments. A part from that I would suggest it should be combines with behavior therapy. This should include creating setting things up for your child at home and at school to make it easier to pay attention his needs. in addition, since ADHD is a chronic (ongoing) condition, the treatment, should be on going so as to timely address the child’s behavior. I would also recommend for a long-term plan that includes goals for your child. this includes ensuring that all the treatment plans are in place, and that everyone works together, then the treatment will be most effective. Apart from this, it is essential that If your child is struggling in school, that you should ask your school for an evaluation of your child. They should provide it, at no cost to you. The purpose of evaluation is to help you when deciding if your child can get special services. And since the testing shows your child has ADHD, the school system may start your child in a special education program if they have one. Another essential step is fostering the development of the child. This is because, since the child has ADHD it will mean that you will have to change your routines and learn to manage the behavior of your child. Medication may be the first step in your child’s treatment but the behavioral techniques for managing a child’s ADHD symptoms must always be in place References Lerner, J., W& Johns, B.H (2015) Learning disabilities and related disabilities (13thed).
