Microsoft defends interest in the controversial contract with Pentagon

According to Town News, Microsoft does not intend to withdraw from the tendering of a lucrative and controversial contract with the US Department of Defense.

"By withdrawing, we would miss out on the opportunity to engage in a public debate about the responsible use of technology," Microsoft chief lawyer Brad Smith writes in a blog post.

The Pentagon is currently looking for a company that will take care of all cloud storage for the ministry. The multi-billion dollar contract is awarded to one party.

On October 13, Microsoft employees wrote an open letter to their employer not complying with the cloud contract.

They fear that the company is on slippery ice with a Pentagon cooperation and warn of the use of artificial intelligence for military purposes. "We understand that some employees have different viewpoints," writes Smith in his message.

"We do not ask or expect from anyone who works at Microsoft to support every position of the company."
