Verstappen states that start was decisive for 'great' victoryPosted by Maryam Yamin on October 29th, 2018 Max Verstappen was very happy on Sunday after his victory in Mexico. Just like last year, the Limburger won the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez written by Dawn News. "This is great", Verstappen jubilated shortly after the finish. "I knew that the start would be decisive and was determined to win today." Red Bull Racing had the first row in its hands for the first time since 2013. Team boss Christian Horner had instructed Verstappen and polesitter Daniel Ricciardo beforehand to take no risks and ride side by side on the first corner so that they could not be overtaken by the faster Ferraris and Mercedes. Due to a poor start by Ricciardo, little of that tactic was achieved. The Australian was overtaken by Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, after which the Dutchman braked just a bit later for the first corner than the Briton. After that Verstappen was able to expand his margin steadily. He eventually finished with a fifteen seconds lead over Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton finished fourth and thus secured his fifth world title. "We had the right tires available, and the car was excellent", said the Red Bull driver, who on Saturday after qualifying had complained about the engine in his car. He said that he had a bad night because he was angry about the problems in qualifying. "I may have only slept for two or three hours because I always thought I could do better with the bike."
