Concrete tools and its types

Concrete tools, also known as cement tools are used for placing and finishing concrete correlate with each part of the finished concrete portion. Despite high-tech power tools, screeds vibrators and other supercharged equipment’s available today to facilitate placement and finishing of concrete, a simpleno-frills tool for finishing are far from obsolete. There is absolutely no substitute for trusty handheld float or trowel to get smooth and level small residential slabs, perform detailed work, and blend in surface color or to maneuver in tight areas.

Although concrete tools don’t vary significantly in designs, they vary in quality. The following factors help us to choose the right type of concrete tools:

  • Type of concrete that you are placing.
  • Characteristics of the concrete.

Once the wet concrete is starting to pour, one must be prepared to move quickly with them too. Let us list below some important concrete tools that need to be handy:

  1. Shovels: Shovels help to distribute the concrete around the job site to fill in the gaps left during the poring process. Square-ended shovels generally work better for concrete, whileround ones spread concrete unevenly.
  2. Tampers: A tamper is used with low slump concrete to push the aggregate below the slab surface. There are types that are used standing on the wet concrete or roller types that can be used from the slab edge.
  3. Saws: Saws are necessary to cut rebar or forms on the job site. Saws can be reciprocating saw, circular or grinders. Saws are used when a problem develops under the slab and a portion of the concrete has to be removed after it has set and dried.
  4. Rakes: Rake is the quickest way to begin getting the freshly poured concrete spread more uniformly into place. Garden rakes and concrete rakes are available. Concrete rakes have more scooped blade for pre leveling the new concrete.
  5. Vibrators: Concrete vibrators help to release the trapped air pockets and excess water from the concrete mix toprevent the problems in slump concrete.
  6. Screeds: Screeds come in a variety of sizes and is used to smooth concrete after it has been moved into place by scarping away any excess from slab surface. Screeds come with straight-edged or bump cutter or flat pieces of dimensional lumber.
  7. Bull Floats: Bull Floats are wide bladed tools that provide the first pass for leveling ridges and filling voids in the concrete after the screed work is done.

There are any more varieties of concrete tools available in the market, one must understand the nuances and should know which finishing tools work best under certain conditions should be the key factors guiding the purchasing condition.
