Deaths through heavy weather Italy rises to eight

 The death toll due to the severe weather that Italy lashes have risen to at least eight written by Press Cube.

All ports on the Ligurian coast are closed due to hurricane winds, as well as Genoa airport.

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, all flights have been cancelled. At sea waves of 8 to 10 meters are reported. On Tuesday a woman died in Dimaro. Last night, a volunteer firefighter died in St. Martin in the Südtirol province, reports ANSA. In Cattolica, a 63-year-old kitesurfer died after being thrown on the rocks by the wind.

Five people were killed in the severe weather on Monday. A person is also missing, and the storm has injured dozens of people. More than five thousand firefighters have been deployed because of the weather.

The population in the affected region is advised to stay indoors. In the province of Savona, wind speeds of 180 kilometres per hour were measured.

The authorities want to relieve the Adige River by draining water through an unused traffic tunnel to Lake Garda. The water in Venice has risen to a height of 156 centimetres.

In Rome, the schools are closed because it is too dangerous to go to school. All tourists who were in Pompeii were evacuated. In the port of Savona, to the west of Genoa, a car terminal flooded. Hundreds of cars were destroyed by it.
