When you are all set to apply for the EEA permit, you need to know the rules and regulations of the EEA permit without fail. You all know that, you can apply for the EEA family permit UK either as a family member or extended family member – right? So, you need to know the eligibility criteria for applying to the visa as a family member or extended family member.

Applying as a Family Member or Extended Family Member

The extended family members include brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, nephew, niece and more.

The applicants must be,

  • In the UK already
  • Travelling with you to the UK within 6 months of the date of your application

If they have been in UK for more than 3 months, then they must be either

  • A qualified person (or)
  • Have a permanent right of residence

How to Qualify as a Family Member?

If you want to qualify as a family member for applying for the EEA Permanent Residency, you must be a spouse or civil partner or related to them as,

  • Child or grandchild under 21 years
  • Dependent child or grandchild of any age
  • Dependent parent or grandparent

These are the things that you posses when you are applying to the EEA residency status either as a family member or extended family member. To get the permanent residency status, you have to live the 5 consecutive years, but absence of 6 months would not be reckoned as a break.
