Superior Courts

These are the next level courts, after district courts. The Superior Courts accept appeals from the district courts. In addition, they also serve to resolve disputes between different district courts, and between administrative bodies. Also, Superior Courts are involved in cases involving felony and whose worth is more than ,000.

Court of Appeals

The Court of Appeals is an appellate court. It accepts appeals from both the Superior Court and District Courts. The Chief judge for the Court of Appeals is appointed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court

Supreme Court is the highest court in the state of North Carolina. The court has one chief justice and six associate justices, who are all elected to eight-year terms. The Supreme Court hears appeals from the lower courts, challenges on the constitutional amendments and conducts hearings to hear cases on challenges on the law.
