What is Python, and Where is it Used?

What is Python Language?

Python language is a general ‘scripting language’ created in 1991 by Dutch programmer Guido Van Rossum. It was named after Monty Python and is used by Python developers for testing microchips, to building video games. It’s a small, general purpose programing language, very much like English, and has hundreds of existing third-party libraries.

Why Prefer Python Programming?

There are mainly three reasons most python web developers choose Python script over other programming languages.

Readability

Python script closely resembles the English language, using words like ‘not’ and ‘in’ to make it easy enough for you to read a program, or script, aloud to someone else and not feel like you’re speaking in some archaic language. This is also facilitated by Python’s very stringent punctuation rules saving you from having curly braces ({ }) all over your code.

Also, Python programming has a set of rules, known as PEP8, that tell every Python programmer how to format their code. This means they always know where to add new lines and, essentially, that pretty much every other Python script, whether it was written by an amateur python developer or an experienced professional, will look quite similar and be just as easy to read.

Libraries

Python has been around for a long time, over 20 years, so a lot of code written in Python language has developed over the years. Since it’s an open source programming language, a lot of python code has been released for others to use.

There are libraries various kinds of use cases, from image manipulation to scientific calculations, to server automation.

Community

Python has user groups all around the world, usually called PUGs. They do major conferences worldwide for passionate python developers to participate, grow their network and learn.

Applications of Python

Not surprisingly, given its ease of functionality and scripting along with it’s versatile nature, Python is ranked among the top five most popular programming languages in the world.

Python is used by major websites such as Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo!, CERN and NASA, among other organizations.

You can use also use python for web programming. It helps to automate a specific series of tasks, to make it more efficient.

Consequently, Python code is often used for python software development, pages within a web browser, operating systems and some games.

The python language can also be utilized in scientific and mathematical computing, and even in artificial intelligence projects. It’s been successfully embedded in numerous software products, including visual effects compositor Nuke, 3D modellers and animation packages.

Everyday Places You’ve Seen Python

Like many other coding languages, Python is an unseen element in many of the application that we use daily. YouTube, Instagram and Quora are among the countless sites that use Python programming. Majority of Dropbox’s code is also written in Python.
