Though Australia won by 4 runs in the first T20 match of India vs Australia ongoing series which started on November 21 but Shikhar Dhawan broke Virat Kohli's record for most T20I runs in a year.

Australia had to end their innings at 158/4 off 17 overs due to heavy showers that prevented the last three overs from being played. The revised D/L target for Team India was then raised to 174 in 17 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan has scored 648 runs from 16 T20Is in the year 2018 which is the most runs by a batsman in a calendar year. In the first T20I of the three-match series, Dhawan slammed 76 off 42 balls. His knock included 10 fours and 2 sixes. When he reached 70, he overtook Kohli's record for the most T20I runs in a calendar year.

Shikhar Dhawan now became the leading run-scorer in 2018 in Twenty20 Internationals with 648 runs and six half-centuries. His One Day International record is also consistent. He has 897 ODI runs in a calendar year and three centuries from 19 matches.

However, Shikhar Dhawan was not named in the squad for the two-match Test series against West Indies at home and for the upcoming Test series in Australia next month.

Rohit Sharma is also 58 runs short of becoming the highest scorer in T20 Internationals. India will play its Second T20 on November 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground and third T20 on November 25 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
